Tutorials
With accountability standards in effect in Florida, tutorials are becoming more and more commonplace. Educators have come to understand that additional instructional time for review and refocus is a requirement if students are to be successful.
Finding sufficient time and talent for student remediation is an ongoing challenge. But the rewards are many. To be effective, tutorials must be offered frequently and by talented staff. The instruction must be focused and intense. Tutorials should never be perceived as a punishment, but instead as an additional opportunity to “catch up”.
Successful teachers use every teaching opportunity allotted to them. For example, they do not permit the end of a class period to become down time. Instead, they use this valuable time for a quick and intense remedial lesson. Remedial times can be built into the regular instructional day.
Benefits of tutorials:
- Prevents students from falling through the cracks
- Assures students that the teacher will not give up on them
- Provides time for small group or one-on-one instruction
- Provides alternative instruction
